Spanish towns boost beach and river safety for tourists

The municipality of Salou in Catalonia inaugurated a reinforced beach‑safety system for the high‑tourist season. Mayor Pere Granados highlighted the deployment of 24 new agents—12 permanent and 12 temporary—along with 25 monitored points, new quad‑bikes and electric bicycles to improve patrol response times. The local police also introduced additional patrol vehicles to safeguard the shoreline.

In the nearby town of Camarasa, authorities continued to strengthen safety at the Platgeta area on the River Segre. Mayor Pere Pedrol confirmed that firefighters have installed safety buoys to mark permitted swimming zones and posted new warning signs to deter dangerous currents. The measures, mirroring those from the previous year, are aimed at preventing further drownings after several fatal incidents in the past decade.
