Spanish towns boost police patrols for beaches and San Juan festivals

The Local Police of La Línea de la Concepción will begin a dedicated beach‑surveillance unit this weekend, assigning eight officers to patrol both urban and non‑urban beaches every day. The team will enforce the municipal beach ordinance, prohibiting animals on the sand, vehicle circulation, unauthorised fishing, illegal structures, unpermitted sports boating and beach fires, with penalties ranging from €750 for minor infractions up to €3,000 for serious violations. The operation will be coordinated with Civil Protection and rescue services.

In the Basque town of Leioa, authorities will deploy 90 uniformed and reservist police officers, alongside the Ertzaintza, for the San Juan festivities from 19 to 24 June. The special device aims to prevent under‑age alcohol consumption, detect drugs and weapons, control traffic—including bicycles and e‑scooters—and enforce municipal safety rules. Mayor Iban Rodriguez said the celebrations are “one of the most important moments of the year,” and the plan also includes a helpline, free transport home, and increased street lighting to ensure a safe, peaceful event.
