Spanish towns confront sewage spills and pest infestations

In the Port de Sóller marina area on Mallorca, residents and business owners have reported daily discharges of raw sewage onto the street of the Marina. The foul water, described as grey and odorous, has flooded sidewalks and restaurant terraces, disrupting commerce and prompting complaints to the regional nature‑protection service. Municipal officials say the leak originates from the main sewer collector beneath the road, but repairs have not been carried out.

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, merchants and neighbours on La Rosa street have raised concerns that recently relocated waste containers no longer sit flush in their designated pits, leaving gaps that they claim have led to a surge of cockroaches. The community has asked the city council and the waste‑collection company to restore the containers to their proper position or otherwise seal the openings. Municipal authorities have not yet issued a response.
