Spanish towns expand summer child‑care ludotecas for families
In Caldas de Reis, Galicia, Mayor Jacobo Pérez visited the Ludoteca de Verán, which served about 200 children aged 3 to 12 during the first half of August. The program offered creative, sports and nature activities, excursions to local sites such as the renovated Botanical Garden and nearby beaches, and partnered with community clubs for workshops.
In Cenicero, La Rioja, Health and Social Policies Councillor María Martín inspected the local summer ludoteca that is part of the regional Plan Corresponsables. Around 60 children participated, and the municipality offered 370 places this year, up from 290 last year. The plan, co‑financed by the Government of La Rioja and the Ministry of Equality, provides 4,026 ludoteca slots across 116 towns, creating 312 contracts for local staff and supporting family‑work balance during the holiday season.
