Spanish towns launch multi‑million euro road and accessibility upgrades

The municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera in Andalusia has begun a new asphalt‑paving campaign costing €1.9 million, covering roughly thirty streets and roads across districts such as La Banda, El Lugar, Los Gallos and the beachfront. The works aim to improve road conditions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, with additional funding expected from the Spanish government and the Andalusian regional authority.

In Galicia, the council of Vilagarcía has applied for €1.8 million from a European Union programme to widen sidewalks and enhance mobility and accessibility throughout the town. The project, if approved, would be 80 % EU‑funded and would include wider pedestrian routes, better connections between the centre and rural villages, and participatory planning involving local institutions and residents. Execution is scheduled for March 2027 to February 2029.
