Spanish towns of La Oliva and Alicante start youth apprenticeship schemes

The municipality of La Oliva on Fuerteventura welcomed 17 students for a practical training scholarship, assigning them to departments such as Sports, Urban Planning, Social Services, Finance, Environment, IT and the Mayor's office. The program, organized by the council’s Development Local department and the Cabildo’s Education Directorate, aims to give young people direct workplace experience and complementary digital‑skills training.

In Alicante, the Impulsajoven School‑Workshop began a paid, year‑long apprenticeship for 30 unemployed youths aged 16‑30. Participants receive training in gardening, masonry, painting and basic cooking, while carrying out improvement works on municipal facilities. The scheme is funded by Labora with more than €743,000 and is managed by the city’s Local Development Agency. Both initiatives are municipal efforts to connect education with practical labour market needs and to boost youth employment in Spain.
