Spanish towns Oviedo and Vegas del Genil launch new municipal waste‑collection services
The city council of Oviedo will start operating three mobile clean‑point units that travel daily to urban neighborhoods and, on weekends, to rural villages. The free service aims to bring selective waste collection closer to residents, accepting items such as small appliances, batteries, electronics, lamps, and household hazardous products while excluding tires, furniture and bulky waste. The rollout, presented by councilor José Ramón Pando, will rotate locations on a three‑month schedule.
In the neighboring municipality of Vegas del Genil, officials announced a revamped street‑cleaning programme that will run seven days a week. The initiative adds more personnel, modern machinery and an expanded coverage area across all urban districts, improving the cleanliness and hygiene of streets, squares and public spaces.
Both projects are part of broader municipal contracts aimed at enhancing local environmental services and complying with European waste‑management targets.
