Spanish towns roll out youth card and community hub for young residents

In the Andalusian municipality of El Ejido, more than 5,000 residents aged 14‑30 have received a free municipal youth card. The card gives holders discounts, promotions and access to services through the “Juventud El Ejido” app, which lists participating businesses and sends notifications. Councilor for Youth, Education and Participation Javier Rodríguez highlighted that the card “allows them to benefit from discounts, promotions and services, and stay informed about activities we offer”.

Meanwhile, the town of Daimiel’s Espacio Joven has grown to over 500 members, offering a venue for games, workshops and live broadcasts of national team matches. The centre recently screened the Spain‑France World Cup knockout match, drawing about 35 youths and several parents. Manager Roberto Velázquez said the aim is to “encourage youngsters to communicate, relate and put screens aside”, stressing the importance of social skills and face‑to‑face interaction. Regular activities include FIFA tournaments, darts, miniature‑painting workshops, role‑playing games and seasonal events, all designed to foster community and personal development.
