Renfe train drivers call 24-hour strike for October 29
The Spanish Railway Drivers and Assistants Union (Semaf) has called for a 24-hour strike on October 29 affecting all companies within the Renfe Group. The stoppage, scheduled from 00:01 to 23:59, targets all driving staff and is expected to impact high-speed, long-distance, medium-distance, freight, and commuter services (Cercanías/Rodalies).
Semaf cites an “administrative blockade” regarding previously signed agreements. Key demands include improvements in railway safety, binding protocols for meteorological emergencies, the hiring of new drivers, better support following accidents or run-overs, and increased rolling stock reliability. The union also seeks to implement a “just culture” in cabins and establish a direct communication channel with the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF) and Labor Inspection.
Renfe has responded by stating it has fully met all commitments from the February agreement following the Adamuz accident. The company maintains that many of the union's current demands fall outside its direct competence or are already progressing through necessary administrative and regulatory channels.
