Dominican Medical College announces 24-hour national strike

The Colegio Médico Dominicano (CMD) has announced a 24-hour national strike scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, starting at 7:00 a.m. The labor suspension aims to pressure the government for responses to long-standing demands regarding the health sector.

CMD leadership, including president Luis Peña Núñez, stated that the union has spent approximately ten months attempting to establish a dialogue with government authorities without success. Key grievances include deteriorating hospital infrastructure, poor working conditions, and regulatory issues. While most services will be suspended, the CMD clarified that emergency services and intensive care units will remain operational to ensure care for critical patients.

In addition to the strike, the union has organized a peaceful march toward the National Palace scheduled for Wednesday, November 11. The demonstration is expected to begin at the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Maternity Hospital.
