Spanish Universities Boost Sustainability and Agri‑Tech Training

The University of Almería was honoured with an international social‑responsibility award from the Ibero‑American university network MetaRed for its inclusive garden project. The initiative, run on the campus since late 2024, serves about 150 participants and has been praised as a European model for inclusion, mental health and sustainability. Vice‑rector Gabriel Aguilera highlighted the garden’s role in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals and fostering community well‑being.

Meanwhile, the University of Granada launched two new micro‑credentials aimed at the agro‑food sector. In partnership with the Granada Chamber of Commerce, the programmes cover sustainable apiculture and the use of geographic information systems, satellite remote sensing and drones for precision agriculture. The courses can be funded through Spain’s FUNDAE scheme and offer discounts to alumni, strengthening university‑industry links and supporting workforce upskilling in climate‑adapted agriculture.
