Spanish universities expand artificial intelligence and data science initiatives
Spanish universities are expanding their focus on artificial intelligence and data science through new academic programs and specialized administrative structures.
The University of Deusto has graduated its first cohort of students in Computer Engineering and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at its Donostia campus. The program emphasizes a combination of technical training and humanistic commitment, focusing on the ethical implications of technology in business and society. The university also plans to introduce a double degree in Business Administration and Data Science/AI for the 2027/28 academic year.
Meanwhile, the University of León has established a new Directorate of Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance. Led by Professor Francisco Javier Rodríguez Lera, this division aims to integrate AI into research, teaching, management, and services. The initiative seeks to foster a responsible use of technology and develop a data-driven culture across the institution.
