Spanish Villages La Hiruela and Jubrique Showcase Heritage Preservation

La Hiruela, a small municipality in the north‑eastern edge of the Madrid region near Guadalajara, has retained its traditional stone, adobe and oak‑wood architecture. Visitors are drawn to its well‑preserved “black and red” houses and a network of forest trails, including the circular Ruta de los Oficios de la Vida, making the village a popular spot for day‑trips and nature‑based tourism.

In the Serranía de Ronda, the town of Jubrique in Málaga province preserves a historic cross that survived the Spanish Civil War after a local resident disguised it as a coat‑hanger. The cross now hangs in the Ermita del Castañuelo and forms part of the town’s rich religious and cultural heritage, alongside other monuments such as the 16th‑century church of San Francisco de Asís.
