Spanish waste management organizations mark 20-year anniversaries
Two major Spanish waste management organizations, SIGNUS and SIGAUS, are celebrating 20 years of operation with significant structural and strategic updates.
SIGNUS has transitioned into SIGNUS Asociación, a new legal structure designed to align with current regulatory frameworks. This transformation aims to increase the participation of producers within the Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility (SCRAP). A new Board of Directors has been appointed, maintaining founding members such as Bridgestone, Continental, Goodyear, Michelin, and Pirelli, while incorporating representatives from other member producers.
SIGAUS, which manages used industrial oil across Spain, is also marking its 20th anniversary. Since its inception in 2007, the organization has managed 2.60 million tons of used oil. Director General Eduardo de Lecea noted the system's ability to adapt to various economic and regulatory shifts, including the 2008 financial crisis, while maintaining its mission to transform waste into resources and minimize environmental impact.
