Spanish wine sector sees new releases, awards, and early harvests

The Spanish wine sector is seeing significant developments across production, recognition, and climate-driven shifts. Bodegas Vega de Yuso has released its 2023 TresMatas Crianza, marking the 20th anniversary of the label. The wine, primarily made from Tempranillo grapes, has been selected as the official wine of the Ribera del Duero Regulatory Council for 2026.

In the Rueda region, the winery Diez Siglos has been named Winery of the Year by the Guía Vinos Gourmets awards. The recognition, determined by reader voting, highlights the collective work of 65 viticulturists within the D.O. Rueda. The region also received a Special Award of the Year for its role in promoting high-quality white wines.

Meanwhile, the group DOEN. ES reports that several Spanish wine regions are experiencing an unusually early harvest. Due to extreme heat and low rainfall between June and August, grape maturation has been compressed, advancing the harvest by nearly a month in some areas. Despite the early timing, the grapes are reported to be in excellent sanitary condition, with the Rías Baixas denomination seeing its earliest harvest on record.
