Spanish wine sectors focus on tourism and rural development

In Jerez, the local government has announced plans to continue promoting its wine heritage and landscape despite failing to secure the title of ‘Spanish City of Wine 2027’ from Acevin. The selection process, which saw Montilla win with 7 votes to Jerez's 3, faced scrutiny regarding the political composition of the Acevin board. Nevertheless, the Jerez City Council intends to work with the Jerez Wine Regulatory Council to maintain the momentum of its 2026 designation as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, focusing on tourism and enogastronomic promotion.

In Castilla-La Mancha, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and the La Mancha Denomination of Origin (D.O.) held a seminar to examine how wine culture can serve as a driver for sustainable rural development. The program addressed challenges such as rural depopulation, exploring how communication, enotourism, and professional promotion can enhance the economic and social value of the region. The event included academic discussions and visits to facilities like Bodega Yuntero to study the intersection of wine quality and modern promotional techniques.
