Spanish women in agri-food cooperatives advocate for equal governance

Women representing various sectors of the Spanish agri-food cooperative movement have held key meetings to promote gender equality and leadership in rural development.

In Las Pedroñeras, Cuenca, the Cooperativa San Isidro El Santo hosted the ‘Alicina, the Essence of El Santo’ event to mark International Rural Women's Day. The gathering focused on the role of women in agri-food innovation and rural development, featuring expert sessions on personal branding and leadership to help women occupy more decision-making spaces within the sector.

Additionally, Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España organized a roadmap session at the Cooperativa Vinícola de Arganda del Rey in Madrid. This event brought together women from eleven autonomous communities to discuss barriers to female participation and develop proposals to strengthen the presence of women in cooperative governing bodies. The initiative was supported by the Instituto de las Mujeres and the Association of Women of Agri-food Cooperatives of Spain (AMCAE).
