Spanish worker denied pension despite 26 years of contributions

A Spanish worker, Pedro Miguel, has had his pension claim denied by Social Security despite having over 26 years of contributions. While Spanish law requires at least 15 years of contributions for an old-age pension, it also mandates that at least 730 days of those contributions must occur within the 15 years immediately preceding the pension request.

Because Miguel had only 22 days of contributions in that specific period due to long gaps in his professional history, the authorities rejected his application. Although a labor court initially granted him a pension of 442.87 euros, the Supreme Court has since overturned that decision.
