Sparkasse customers warned of pushTAN phishing attacks

The German consumer protection agency (Verbraucherzentrale) has issued an urgent warning regarding a wave of phishing attacks targeting Sparkasse customers. Fraudsters are sending emails with urgent subject lines, such as “Update dringend erforderlich!” (Update urgently required!), to create pressure on users.

These emails falsely claim that an update to the pushTAN security procedure is necessary to maintain account access or ensure security. The messages contain links to fraudulent websites designed to mimic official online banking interfaces, aiming to steal sensitive login credentials through social engineering.

Consumer advocates emphasize that banking institutions do not request security-relevant updates or data verification via unsecure email links.
