Sparkasse Solingen targeted in 13.7 million euro fraud trial

A trial has commenced at the Wuppertal District Court regarding an alleged real estate fraud scheme targeting Sparkasse Solingen. Prosecutors allege that a trio manipulated credit documents to secure approximately 13.7 million euros in loans between 2018 and 2019.

The scheme reportedly involved falsifying income and equity statements to inflate the creditworthiness of property buyers, while also overstating property values. A subsequent evaluation revealed that more than half of the loan volume was not adequately secured by the properties involved.

Two defendants are currently facing trial for professional and gang-related fraud. One is a 54-year-old from Solingen accused of preparing the documents, and the other is a 45-year-old former real estate consultant for the bank who allegedly secured loan approvals from supervisors. A third suspect, an estate agent, remains at large and is believed to have fled with six million euros.
