Sparkassen to replace S-ID-Check with S-pushTAN for online payments

The Sparkassen financial group is phasing out its S-ID-Check security app, transitioning millions of customers to the S-pushTAN application for authorizing online card payments.

Depending on the specific institution, the S-ID-Check service will be discontinued between the end of 2026 and January 31, 2027. For example, Berliner Sparkasse plans to end the service by the end of 2026, while Sparkasse Mittelsachsen, Förde Sparkasse, and Sparkasse Hannover have set a deadline of January 31, 2027.

Customers using Sparkassen-Cards with Co-Badge Debit Mastercard or Visa Debit, classic credit cards, the Sparkassen-Karte Basis, and the private or commercial Sparkassen-Card Plus will be affected. To ensure uninterrupted e-commerce transactions, customers must register for the new system via their respective institutes, which involves receiving an activation letter containing a QR code by mail. Those already using S-pushTAN for regular online banking may be able to use the 3-D Secure process directly within the existing app.
