Spatial intelligence and Physical AI drive evolution toward real-world interaction

Artificial intelligence is shifting from simple image recognition toward spatial intelligence, enabling systems to understand physical environments, predict changes, and execute actions. This evolution is driven by the rise of embodied AI and world models, which aim to bridge the gap between digital processing and physical interaction.

Recent trends from the ECCV conference highlight this transition. While image and video synthesis remain dominant in research volume, 3D vision is evolving from static geometric modeling into dynamic 4D representation and interactive scene understanding. Research is increasingly focused on how models can imagine future states to facilitate better planning and execution.

Developing Physical AI requires addressing significant real-world constraints. Unlike centralized AI, these systems must operate within strict limits regarding latency, power, thermal management, and reliability. Because many physical AI applications require immediate response to sensor data to ensure safety and operational efficiency, they often rely on edge computing to maintain a continuous cycle of sensing, inference, and actuation.
