Spaziani Hospital uses custom prosthesis for complex aneurysm surgery
A multidisciplinary team at the Spaziani Hospital in Frosinone successfully treated a 79-year-old patient suffering from a severe thoracoabdominal aneurysm. Due to the patient's complex clinical profile and the extent of the aneurysm, which involved major blood vessels supplying vital organs, medical staff utilized a custom-made endovascular prosthesis.
This personalized device was designed to match the patient's specific anatomy, allowing surgeons to secure the artery at risk of rupture while ensuring proper blood flow to the organs. The procedure was coordinated by Dr. Laura Capoccia of the Vascular Surgery unit and Dr. Andrea Wilder of the Interventional Radiology unit, with technical support from Professor Wassim Mansour of La Sapienza University in Rome. The patient was discharged in good condition following the operation.
