SPD Bremen demands higher apprenticeship compensation

The SPD sub-district of Bremen City has issued a resolution calling for higher and fairer apprenticeship compensation. The party aims to establish a 'Bremen Standard for Good Training' and requests that the Senate prioritize collective agreement-oriented compensation in public contracts.

To address rising living costs, the SPD is advocating for the regular adjustment of statutory minimum apprenticeship wages to match wage and price developments. The party highlighted recent wage trends in Bremen, noting that between 2022 and 2023, gross hourly earnings for low earners rose by 13.6 percent. In 2024, the bottom fifth of employees saw a 7.7 percent increase in earnings, while the top fifth saw a 4.8 percent increase.
