SPD calls for massive investment instead of austerity

The SPD leadership has called for massive investments to ensure economic stability and industrial transformation in Germany, opposing continued strict austerity measures. Ahead of an upcoming cabinet retreat in Neuhardenberg, the party emphasized the effectiveness of the 500-billion-euro special fund. SPD leader Lars Klingbeil stated that over 50 billion euros from this fund have already been mobilized for specific projects.

The party leadership criticized long-term austerity policies, arguing they have damaged Germany's infrastructure and economic attractiveness. They contend that such policies have led to an investment backlog that citizens and businesses are currently experiencing. The SPD intends to use the special fund to modernize schools, daycare centers, and hospitals to create a foundation for new jobs.

While the SPD advocates for increased spending, some voices urge caution. Economist Veronika Grimm has warned that structural reforms are urgently needed as time runs out, and the CDU Economic Council has called for significant reductions in bureaucracy to maintain competitiveness.
