SPD Mainz demands job security at DB Cargo

The SPD Mainz city council faction is calling for the protection of jobs and locations following restructuring at DB Cargo. The company has reportedly cut more than 200 positions in its central division over the last twelve months, with nearly 200 more expected by the end of the year.

Critics are also concerned about the potential sale of majority stakes in the subsidiaries DB Intermodal Services and TFG Transfracht. These companies, which employ over 600 people—mostly in Mainz—play a significant role in connecting rail, road, and water transport. Erik Donner, chairman of the SPD city council faction, characterized the moves as a retreat from the Mainz location rather than a restructuring concept.
