SPD nominates Michel Friedman for Federal Convention

The Hessian SPD parliamentary group has nominated publicist Michel Friedman to participate in the Federal Convention, which will elect the successor to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The decision was made with the involvement of SPD parliamentary group leader Matthias Miersch.

Friedman, the former Vice President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, was praised by party leaders for his commitment to defending liberal democracy and his fight against antisemitism and racism. Friedman described the upcoming election as being of "highest importance," noting the need to protect the constitution during a time when he believes certain political forces seek to undermine it.
