SPD party to hold national meeting following election losses

The Czech political movement SPD has called a national assembly for November 8 to evaluate its recent performance in the October municipal and Senate elections. Party Vice-Chairman Radim Fiala stated that the party failed to achieve success and must prepare for future electoral cycles.

The party saw a significant decline in municipal mandates, dropping from 492 in 2022 to 166 this year. Additionally, no SPD candidates advanced to the second round of the Senate elections. Fiala attributed the poor results to the failure to promote core campaign themes such as migration, relations with the European Union, and the Green Deal. He also noted that a lack of coalition with parties like PRO, Svobodní, and Trikolor in certain regions led to candidates competing against one another and splitting the vote.

The upcoming meeting will include analyses of the election results and will precede leadership elections scheduled for next year. Fiala has not yet decided whether he will defend his current position.
