SPD politicians engage in regional political discussions in Germany

SPD politicians Dennis Maelzer and Matthias Miersch held recent events to discuss political challenges and democratic engagement with citizens in Germany.

In Düsseldorf, a group of 49 citizens from Lippe visited the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament. During the visit, SPD state parliament member Dennis Maelzer discussed parliamentary processes and the approach of democratic factions toward the AfD. Maelzer noted that concerns regarding rising right-wing extremism are prevalent in his constituency and emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear stance while focusing on substantive issues like education, child protection, and affordable care.

In Degersen, SPD parliamentary group leader Matthias Miersch hosted the 35th Calenberger Treff. Approximately 90 participants attended the event to discuss federal politics, the challenges facing the SPD, and the work of the federal government. Miersch addressed recent local election results in Lower Saxony and discussed broader political trends in states such as Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Berlin, focusing on how to rebuild public trust and strengthen democracy.
