SPD regional branches in Schleswig-Holstein demand policy course correction
Four regional associations of the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein—Kiel, Dithmarschen, Schleswig-Flensburg, and Stormarn—have issued an open letter demanding a significant course correction from the federal government. The associations criticize the current direction of planned social reforms, stating, “This course is wrong.”
The criticism targets the cumulative impact of various measures, including increased pressure on sick employees, job insecurity due to fixed-term contracts, rising social security contributions, and debates regarding delayed retirement ages. The groups also expressed frustration over the lack of planned taxation or participation from large fortunes, high incomes, and significant inheritances.
According to Kiel Co-Chairman Enrico Tokar, the dissatisfaction is leading to members leaving the party and withdrawing from active political work, as many feel the party's social democratic values are eroding. The letter includes ten specific demands addressed to the federal executive board, SPD ministers, and members of the Bundestag.
