SPD rejects CDU demand for Social Minister Bärbel Bas to resign
A political dispute has emerged within Germany's coalition government following a call for the resignation of Social Minister Bärbel Bas. Christian von Stetten, chairman of the Union's parliamentary circle for medium-sized businesses, publicly criticized Bas, stating she is “no longer tenable” due to her alleged blocking of essential social and pension reforms.
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil reacted strongly to the demand, expressing indignation and emphasizing the need for government unity during difficult times. Klingbeil also raised concerns regarding the political direction of certain elements within the Union, specifically warning against potential cooperation between the Union and the AfD to organize majorities in the Bundestag.
While several SPD politicians have offered support to Bas, some members of the Union, such as Hendrik Hoppenstedt, have distanced themselves from the public nature of the coalition conflict.
