SPD unveils 2026 Berlin election program

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) has released its program for the 2026 Berlin state election. The full document is available online as a PDF and was drafted through an open process that began with a neighbourhood forum in Friedrichshain‑Kreuzberg in July 2025. Local initiatives, associations, social organisations and residents contributed ideas on affordable housing, social participation, education and economic policy.

The program calls for the creation of new housing stock, measures to curb rent increases, free education for all children, stronger wages and a solid economic base. In its foreword the party stresses a “mutige Politik” (courageous politics) that unites Berlin’s diverse communities and defends democracy against internal and external threats.

The initiative is presented as a collective effort by SPD representatives, district delegates and citizens, aiming to give Berlin a solid, inclusive foundation for the coming years.
