Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed criticizes Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has criticized former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, describing her actions regarding enforced disappearances as a form of acting. Speaking at a meeting in Lalmohan, Bhola, the Speaker alleged that Hasina would offer false comfort to the families of missing persons at the Ganabhaban, promising to return their loved ones while knowing their actual whereabouts.

Ahmed further accused the former administration of widespread corruption and human rights abuses. He cited specific instances of corruption, such as inflated costs for items during the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project, and mentioned the mistreatment of political figures, including a barrister who was detained in an ‘Ayna Ghar’ for eight years. The Speaker also addressed historical political violence in the Bhola region, noting attacks on political activists during previous election cycles.
