Speaker Mike Johnson campaigns in key New Mexico and Texas districts

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is campaigning in key swing districts to help Republicans maintain their narrow majority in the House of Representatives.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Johnson campaigned for Republican candidate Greg Cunningham, a retired Marine and detective challenging incumbent Democrat Gabe Vasquez in the state’s southernmost congressional district. The race is considered a national priority, with both parties viewing it as a must-win seat. Johnson noted that while Vasquez won reelection in 2024, Donald Trump won the district during the same cycle.

In San Antonio, Texas, Johnson joined other Republican leaders to support Carlos De La Cruz in the 35th Congressional District. This district was reshaped during a redistricting process that Republicans believe provides a strategic advantage. Johnson emphasized the importance of the area, stating that congressional leaders nationwide are closely watching the outcome as the party seeks to protect its slim majority.
