Speaker Mike Johnson campaigns in Maine to defend House GOP majority

House Speaker Mike Johnson is campaigning in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District to support Republican candidate Paul LePage. During a stop in Bangor, Johnson dismissed polling that predicts a Republican defeat in the upcoming November 3 elections, stating, “We’re going to surprise them.”

Johnson is currently engaged in an extensive campaign blitz, scheduled to visit more than 20 states and 40 congressional districts throughout October. He aims to help Republicans maintain their narrow House majority, a task made difficult by historical trends where the president’s party typically loses seats during midterm elections.

The Speaker is urging candidates to run on the party's record, citing achievements such as tax cuts, border security, and job growth. This campaign effort comes as Republicans face pressure in several battleground regions amid voter concerns regarding economic issues and foreign policy.
