Speaker Mike Johnson rejects forecasts of Democratic House majority

House Speaker Mike Johnson has dismissed election forecasts predicting a Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections. During a televised interview, Johnson argued that current polling data relies on “faulty analysis” and fails to capture the true level of Republican enthusiasm.

Johnson cited his recent campaigning across 21 states and 39 congressional districts as evidence that pollsters are underestimating GOP support. He noted that many Republican voters he encounters do not participate in political surveys, which he suggests leads to inaccurate projections. He also pointed to recent instances where polling firms admitted to fabricating data.

In contrast to Johnson’s outlook, some election forecasts suggest a Democratic advantage. One projection assigns 219 seats to Democrats and 198 to Republicans, with 18 seats remaining competitive. Under such a scenario, Democrats would secure a majority, as 218 seats are required to control the House.
