Specialized maternity care and infrastructure impact childbirth outcomes
Medical specialists emphasize that the choice of delivery location is a determining factor in the evolution of childbirth. At the Grupo Médico Santa Paula (GMSP), the focus is on providing advanced surgical support and perinatological care to protect both mother and newborn while promoting early bonding.
According to prenatal diagnosis specialist Héctor Adrián, essential elements for an optimal process include trained professionals, continuous monitoring, immediate pediatric support, and access to intensive care units. The facility utilizes specialized TPR (Labor, Delivery, and Recovery) rooms located near main operating theaters to allow for immediate emergency transfers and epidural administration in the same room.
To facilitate early skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding, the hospital infrastructure is designed to prevent the separation of mother and child, keeping monitors and cribs within the mother's room. For high-complexity pregnancies, the Perinatology Unit employs a team of eight subspecialists in critical obstetrics.
