Spectrum Community School unveils new all-weather turf field

Spectrum Community School in Saanich has officially unveiled a new all-weather turf field following ten months of construction. The project marks the completion of the first phase of a replacement effort that has been in development for a decade.

The new pitch replaces a grass field that had been deemed unusable for 15 years due to severe drainage issues, flooding, and muddy conditions. Students and staff noted that the previous field's uneven surface, filled with holes and divots, frequently caused injuries such as sprained or broken fingers and rolled ankles.

School principal Aaron Norris described the opening as a “pretty special day” following years of planning and fundraising. Future phases of the project aim to add further amenities to the facility, including benches, team shelters, and a score clock.
