Speed camera warning apps and devices undergo reliability testing
Recent evaluations of speed camera warning tools highlight significant differences in reliability and functionality between mobile applications and dedicated hardware devices.
In a software-based test conducted by the technology portal Chip, Blitzer.de Pro emerged as the top performer due to its high data quality and timely, repeated warnings. The free Waze app also demonstrated high reliability in detecting mobile speed cameras and provided strong navigation, though it was noted for frequent warnings and a playful interface. In contrast, TomTom showed weaknesses in detecting mobile speed cameras, and Sygic required a paid subscription for its speed camera features.
Regarding hardware solutions, the Lescars speed camera warning device was identified as a top choice for its ability to reliably alert drivers to hazards, radar traps, and construction sites using a non-distracting LED ring. The Ooono CO-Driver NO2 was also highly rated for its build quality and visual alerts, though its ability to detect construction sites was noted as being weaker than the Lescars model.
