Speed enforcement technology ranges in Hungary

Speed enforcement technologies in Hungary vary significantly in their operational range and methods. Fixed radar systems, such as the VÉDA system using VidarSpeed cameras, typically monitor vehicles within a range of 20 to 30 meters from their mounting point. Other fixed cameras housed in traffic boxes may have a detection range of up to 150 meters.

In contrast, mobile laser devices offer much greater range. Certain laser models, such as the TC-108 or FámaLaser, can effectively measure vehicle speeds from distances exceeding one kilometer, even while being operated from a moving police vehicle.

Authorities note that sudden braking upon spotting a camera is ineffective and potentially dangerous for following drivers. Furthermore, environmental factors like fog or darkness do not render these devices unusable, as they have limited impact on measurement accuracy.
