Speedboats burned and sunk in Padma River during pirate clash
Two speedboats were set on fire and subsequently sunk in the Padma River near Bahadurpur Union in the Bheramara Upazila of Kushtia. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon following a conflict between two groups of river pirates competing for dominance in the area.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots before seeing plumes of black smoke and flames rising from the river. According to local accounts, one group chased the other, causing the occupants of two boats to flee to the riverbank. The opposing group then allegedly poured petrol on the abandoned vessels and set them ablaze. After local residents managed to control the fire, another speedboat arrived and towed the damaged boats into the middle of the river to sink them.
Local police officials stated that while they are aware of the incident, the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the naval police. Naval police units have been dispatched to the scene to investigate and search for the vessels.
