Speedcast to provide TGS with all-LEO satellite connectivity

Speedcast has secured a multi-year deal to implement an all-Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity solution across the global fleet of TGS, a provider of data and intelligence for the energy industry.

The solution utilizes Starlink’s Dedicated Service to provide high-bandwidth connectivity, characterized by high prioritization and low latency. This is orchestrated by Speedcast’s SIGMA intelligent edge compute platform, which incorporates Eutelsat OneWeb and other LEO resilience WANs.

The technology enables the near real-time transmission and remote cloud processing of seismic data sets of up to 10 terabytes per day at sustained upload speeds of 1Gbit/s. This digital shift replaces the traditional method of transporting physical media from vessels and allows geophysicists to perform data processing onshore rather than on offshore rotations. During testing, the Starlink Dedicated Service achieved peak upload speeds of 950 Mbps, representing a three to four-fold performance increase over standard Starlink Global Priority plans.
