Spelling competitions held in Ursus and Gliwice
Various spelling competitions have recently been held in Poland, celebrating linguistic skill among different age groups and communities.
In the Ursus district of Warsaw, the ‘Słoneczny Dom’ Community Self-Help Home hosted a spelling contest organized by the Ursus District Public Library. Participants from several areas, including Ochota, Targówek, Praga-Południe, Ursynów, Łubiec, and Otwock, competed in a challenging dictation. The event included an awards ceremony attended by local officials, such as Ursus District Mayor Bogdan Olesiński, and featured the premiere of the 56th issue of the ‘Alternatywy’ publication.
In Gliwice, the Municipal Public Library organized the ‘Ortografikon - Gliwickie Dyktando’. Following an initial stage involving 294 students from 12 schools, 39 finalists competed in three age categories: grades IV-VI, grades VII-VIII, and secondary schools. Winners included Jan Woźniak, Mikołaj Ochabowicz, and Maria Ogaza. The competition was judged by language experts from the University of Silesia and included lectures on linguistic topics.
