Spencer Pratt sues Los Angeles mayor over Palisades fire as mayoral race heats up

Reality‑TV personality Spencer Pratt announced he will join Karen Bass’s brother, Kenneth Bass, in a lawsuit against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accusing her of "reckless negligence" in the handling of the Palisades wildfire that destroyed homes in Malibu. The suit alleges the city and state failed to provide adequate water supplies for firefighting, adding Pratt’s own earlier claim against the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to the list of thousands of filings linked to the fire.

Pratt, who is also a candidate in the 2025 Los Angeles mayoral race, entered the contest late and faces incumbent Karen Bass and City Councilwoman Nithia Raman. While his campaign is unlikely to overcome the city’s strong Democratic registration advantage, the lawsuit and his outspoken criticism of the mayor’s response have intensified the political drama surrounding the election. The story unfolds amid broader concerns about homelessness, real‑estate development and recent federal funding cuts to the city’s homeless services agency.
