Spencer Pratt's Los Angeles mayoral bid spotlights resource cuts, AI ads and exit threat if defeated

Reality‑TV personality Spencer Pratt is campaigning to become mayor of Los Angeles. He has positioned himself as an outsider focusing on public‑safety, homelessness and city‑wide infrastructure, claiming that incumbent Mayor Karen Bass has mis‑managed resources. Pratt highlighted that the Palisades and Santa Ynez reservoirs are empty during fire season after being drained for drinking water, and warned that $20 million in repairs are needed for fire‑fighting capacity.

The campaign has drawn attention for a wave of AI‑generated videos that depict Pratt as Batman, Luke Skywalker and other cinematic heroes. Critics, including Mayor Bass, called the ads “very scary” and “150 % fiction,” while experts note the difficulty voters may have distinguishing AI fabrications from real statements.

Pratt’s poll numbers show him trailing Bass (30 % to 22 %) but ahead of other challengers. He has secured high‑profile endorsements and donations, such as from former Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, and received public support from former "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge.

On the personal front, Pratt told listeners he will relocate his family out of Los Angeles if he loses, saying he cannot raise his children amid crime, homelessness and the city’s “broken” system.
