Spencer Pratt alleges federal fraud probe into Los Angeles homeless NGO
Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, who lost the June primary, has publicized a federal investigation into the Weingart Center, one of the city’s largest homeless-service nonprofits. Pratt claims the probe concerns a property deal in Cheviot Hills that allegedly involved waste, fraud and abuse, with the nonprofit seeking to dismiss the allegations in court.
According to Pratt’s statements on social media, the court rejected all attempts by the Weingart Center to dismiss the fraud and waste claims. He further alleges that former mayor Karen Bass and councilwoman Nithya Raman funneled tax dollars through the nonprofit, resulting in a $16 million property flip and higher costs for a homeless housing project while evicting senior residents. The investigation continues as authorities examine the structure of the deal and potential misuse of federal funds.
