SPFL invites bids for Scottish Premiership TV rights
The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has officially invited broadcasters to submit offers for the UK television rights to the Scottish Premiership, beginning with the 2029-30 season.
The current broadcasting arrangement is a five-year, £150 million deal with Sky Sports, which permits the broadcaster to air up to 60 matches per season. This contract is set to conclude at the end of the 2028-29 campaign. Additionally, Premier Sports currently holds rights to broadcast up to 22 matches per year, though the SPFL noted it remains “flexible about the number of games that it shows live in future.”
SPFL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster stated that securing robust broadcast partnerships is vital for maintaining a “balanced and sustainable income mix” for the league and its member clubs. Doncaster expressed anticipation for “strong interest” from broadcasters, citing the league's status as one of Europe’s most exciting competitions and noting that the SPFL recently recorded its highest yearly attendances in history.
A separate agreement with Premier Sports regarding the broadcast and sponsorship rights for the Scottish League Cup remains in effect until the end of the 2030-31 season and will not be impacted by this tender process.
