Sphere Entertainment Q2 revenue up 11% on Wizard of Oz success

Sphere Entertainment reported second‑quarter revenue of $313.6 million, an 11% increase year over year, driven by a surge in its Sphere segment. The Las Vegas venue generated $226.4 million in revenue, up 29%, after 220 showings of the re‑tooled "Wizard of Oz" film, which has sold more than three million tickets and earned over $400 million in ticket sales since its debut.

Despite the revenue growth, the company posted an operating loss of $61.3 million, $11.1 million larger than the same quarter last year, largely due to a 30% rise in selling, general and administrative expenses that reached $125.6 million. Executive chairman and CEO James Dolan said demand remains strong and highlighted plans to open additional Sphere venues, including a full‑size location in Abu Dhabi and a smaller site near Washington, D.C., while developing new productions such as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" for future release.
