Spice Girls celebrate 30 years of 'Wannabe' as Melanie C joins The Voice Australia as coach
On 27 July 1996 the Spice Girls topped the UK Singles Chart with "Wannabe", sparking a global hit that reached number one in 22 countries, sold over six million copies and earned Ivor Novello and BRIT Awards. Thirty years later the group’s legacy is highlighted by the anniversary of the song, which remains a defining anthem of 1990s pop culture.
Former member Melanie Chisholm, known as Sporty Spice, has returned to television as a judge and coach on the 15th season of The Voice Australia. The show, featuring fellow coaches Ronan Keating, Richard Marx, Kate Miller‑Heidke and Tones and I, aims to discover talent across a broad range of styles, from classic vocalists to hip‑hop and rap artists. Chisholm will also embark on an Australian leg of her world tour later in the year.
