Spider-Man: Brand New Day teases unseen villain and rumors of Shocker return

Tom Holland, promoting the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, said the film’s main antagonist is a secret threat "unlike anything" seen before in the franchise. The villain is described as invisible to the city and only Spider-Man can confront it, hinting at a conceptual or supernatural foe.

Separately, rumor mills claim that the Shocker, who appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming, may also return in Brand New Day alongside confirmed adversaries such as Scorpion, Tombstone, the Hand, Boomerang and Tarantula. Neither Sony nor Marvel have confirmed the Shocker’s involvement, and the film’s trailers have not shown the character.

Brand New Day is slated to open in U.S. theatres on July 31, 2026, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.
